Women’s Third Act

The Third Act

I listened to a podcast the other day about women who had worked their way up the corporate ladder and were experiencing burnout with their corporate life. They weren't ready to retire, yet they had wisdom, energy, and philanthropic ambitions that needed an outlet. Enter the idea of A Third Act. The women on the podcast were in their fifties and had left their affluent corporate positions to open consulting firms and join boards of private and public companies. It seemed like a natural transition since they were leaders in their respective industries. But then, I began to think about women like me, who stepped out of the workplace to become COO, (chief operating officer), of their households and now find themselves “retired.”  Do we have a Third Act in us? If so, how do we find it?

 Designing Your Life with Flow

As my last child left for college, I came across a book by two Stanford University educators called Designing Your Life. This book taught me the idea of FLOW. We are in FLOW when we don't even notice time passing. When you experience FLOW, you most likely are experiencing your passion. One night I found myself reading a complicated investment book until 3 am and proceeded to redesign our entire portfolio. It was a fun exercise, and I realized I was in Flow. From this experience, the germ of an idea started. Could I create my own financial advising business?  Could this be MY Third Act? Fortunately, I had friends who had already begun their Third Acts, running businesses designing textiles, belts, and candles to providing adult care services and somatic therapy counseling. Their examples encouraged me to step out into my passion.

 My Third Act

This August I celebrated the second anniversary of running Marathon Wealth Management and I have loved every minute of it!  Daily, I talk with interesting women I would never have met, learning their stories, and partnering with them to organize their financial lives. I value learning, adventure, and serving others and running MWM gives me the opportunity to lean into all three!  I am truly grateful for the gift and the energy to be able to have a Third Act.

Are you Ready?

It can be scary stepping out and starting something new and it takes planning. Some of it, financial. So, if you have been thinking about what your Third Act could be, I would love to help, partnering with you to create a financial plan that allows you to step out and experience your passion....Your Third Act!
