How to Be the Boss of Your Finances
Be The Boss
Women entrepreneurship is on the rise. I believe Covid created a massive shift in women’s mindset around work. Instead of working FOR a boss many of us want to BE the boss. We want to work on our own terms and make a positive impact in our communities.
It is satisfying to call our own shots, but running a business takes a tremendous amount of energy, like pushing a boulder up a steep hill. We go to bed exhausted yet satisfied that we were able to keep the lights on, pay our employees, and pay ourselves. With all our energy going into our business and perhaps a family, what often gets ignored is our personal finances. Before we know it, we wake up with the feeling that our finances are floundering, unsure of what we should be doing to secure our own future.
Maybe you opened a savings account or even a brokerage account and bought mutual funds and stocks because you were told that’s what you should do. But do you understand why you own what you own and how they help you reach your financial vision? When we look at our business finances we know exactly where we stand and thus can make solid decisions about where to invest our time and money. This same mindset needs to show up for our personal finances.
How to Be the Boss.
Start by answering these three questions:
WHAT does money mean to you?
The answers I hear most often are Security and Freedom. When you understand what money means to you, you will become more intentional with how you use your money.
WHY -what is your Why for working so hard?
To be able to pivot to a passion project? Give generously? More time with family? Travel? Build a vacation home? Once you know your WHY for working so hard, you begin to filter each financial decision through this lens.
WHEN do you want to experience your WHY?
·Knowing your timeline for each of your goals will dictate how and where you should invest your money.
When you have a clear path to growing your wealth, you truly are the Boss of your finances.
I am one of those women who, during covid, decided to start my own financial advisory firm. In my past life I worked for a large brokerage house, and I’m often asked what the difference is between what I did then and my work now. The answer is simple, when I worked for another boss, I was incentivized by commissions, encouraged to sell the latest investment idea and there was no time to really understand my clients. Now that I run my own advisory firm, I can take the time to discover your WHAT, WHY, and WHEN and craft a thoughtful financial plan that gives you clear guidance toward your goals along with making sure you understand why you own what you own in your investment portfolio.
I would love to help YOU become the Boss of your finances because when you have a clear path to growing your wealth, you truly are the Boss.
